For many years, I’ve asked God to create in me a clean heart. Purity of heart is critical for believers. God wants us to love Him with all of our heart, all of our soul, all of our mind and all of our strength (see Luke 10:27). Without a pure heart, we’ll have a heart divided between God and idols.
If you’re like me and you are in pursuit of attaining and maintaining a pure heart, meditate on these verses:
Matthew 5:8, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
Psalm 119:9, “How shall a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word.”
1 Corinthians 6:18, “Escape from sexual immorality. Every sin that a man commits is outside the body. But he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.”
1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the lust of depravity, even as the Gentiles who do not know God…”
Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
Colossians 3:5, “Therefore put to death the parts of your earthly nature: sexual immorality, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”
Ephesians 5:5, “For this you know, that no sexually immoral or impure person, or one who is greedy, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”
Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think on these things.”
1 Thessalonians 4:3-8, “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the lust of depravity, even as the Gentiles who do not know God, and that no man take advantage of and defraud his brother in any matter, because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, as we also have forewarned you and testified. Psalm 24:3-4, “Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.”
2 Timothy 2:21, “One who cleanses himself from these things will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, fit for the Master’s use, and prepared for every good work.”
Psalm 119:37, “Turn away my eyes from beholding worthlessness, and revive me in Your way.”

These are great. We tend to forget how important our thought life is. Not just physical acts, but the desires of our heart can lead us into separation from God.
I think these verses highlight how difficult it is to remain truly faithful. Not just sexually, but spiritually, physically, emotionally. Even angry thoughts are a form of unfaithfulness. Fantasizing is being unfaithful even if I never touch another person sexually besides my spouse. It is a betrayal of trust. This applies so much to our spiritual walk, our relationship with God as well. How many ways are we “unfaithful” to God every day? Thanks for the reminder!

Todah Jennifer for all these powerful scriptures. Even though I have read them over and over again, today they just jumped off the page at me. The older we get we sometimes forget what we have read. So we always need reminding. How we think and the words that come out of our mouths are very important to our God. I am always aware of what I am thinking and I always want to please the Lord with the right words that come out of my mouth.
Amen, my soul yearns for the closeness of GOD always, Lord create in me a clean and pure heart to submit to you alone.
