God is speaking out of Amos 8, but can the church hear?

By Dr. Naim Collins
“Behold the days are coming, declares the Lord GOD, when I will SEND a FAMINE on the land, not a famine of BREAD, nor a thirst for WATER, but of HEARING THE WORDS OF THE LORD…they shall run to and fro to SEEK the WORD of the LORD, but they shall not FIND IT (Amos 8:11-12)”

There is a season of God that many are not aware of that comes in certain times to manifest the intent of God. This season is what I would call a “Prophetic Famine.” According to Amos 8:11-12, God declared through Amos the prophet that there would be days in which the Lord would send upon the land a season of famine which was something uniquely different because this type of famine was not your typical famine of scarcity and shortage of food or lack of water in a dry season. I believe this type of famine was the lack of hearing prophetically. In other words, a prophetic famine can be described as not being able to hear voice of God. Spiritually, it is liken to not receiving any bread (fresh revelation) and no water (fresh outpouring of the Spirit). This is a spiritual drought at its finest.

Many people are experiencing this type of famine in their personal lives, cities, regions, family and nations. Historically, Israel had consistently rejected the words of the Lord that was sent by the prophets and turned away from God to follow other gods. Famine was symbolic to represent the withdrawal of God's word and the destruction of idols (Zeph. 2:11).

Rare Prophetic Seasons
“Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.” (1 Samuel 3:1)

The word of the Lord was rare in the time of the judges and it was the period of extremely limited prophetic activity and encounters. The few visions that God did give during that time were not widely known or experienced. There was a scarcity in divine revelation mediated through prophetic voices or visions and dreams. The spiritual climate in the days of Samuel is similar of what we are experiencing in this hour where in many churches, territories, cities, regions and nations are absent of authentic prophetic activities. Much of this is a result of the hardness of the hearts of men, unbelief, and fear of the supernatural, disobedience, idolatry, and spiritual blindness, erroneous doctrines in the church and gross perversion and growing sin.

God sends rare prophetic seasons of famine and drought to call rare prophetic voices to emerge in these moments to cause movement. God sends times of famine of hearing the word of the Lord in order to develop a greater hunger and thirst for more of the prophetic. It produces a greater seek in the hearts of His people after Him. God allows global epidemics, warfare, sickness and diseases, murders and social and economic declines to come to a boiling point to cause men to seek Him for solutions and answers to the world's problem. Rare ministries are raised in seasons of famine. Samuel the prophet was called in a time where the prophetic voices has become irrelevant, obsolete and ignored. Dark times in Israel called for drastic prophetic measures, where the vitality of Israel existence hinged on the word of the Lord.

God is raising up Elijahs and Samuels who will carry prophetic relief in the midst of famine who will bring the glory rain, breakthrough, healings, revival, restoration, deliverance, miracles, signs and wonders. Samuel and Elijah anointing were instrumental and key to opening up the heavens and changing spiritual climates in their day. We are about to see a resurgence of these types of prophetic anointing in this hour where they prophets and prophetic people are hearing rare revelation in seasons of famine and drought in order to release the breakthrough of heaven that the earth needs.

Prophetic Relief
There are men and women of God who will carry the rain in their mouths like Elijah the prophet declaring the drought is over. We are about to experience revival rain upon us where we are going to be soaked and drenched in the glory of God.

Elijahs are coming to declare that the droughts in men's lives over after they have been praying fervently in a birthing posture to hear supernaturally a sound of abundance of rain (see 1 Kings 18:41). Before there was a supernatural relief of rain, Elijah told Ahab to “Go up, eat and drink.” God is sending prophetic relief through the words and voices of the prophetic to bring supernatural rain.
