Do you know what moves God's heart?

By Wayland Henderson

I love the season of Passover and all the revelatory truths that continually unfold from it regarding the revelation of Jesus the Lamb of God that was slain for the sins of the world (John 1:29). I don’t search for revelation particularly regarding the truths of Passover during this season because I want Holy Spirit to reveal it to me and not because I was trying to make it fit because it’s Passover!

As I was driving yesterday, the Lord began to ask me a question…are we ready to be consumed with the same zeal for His house to be a place of pure worship as He is? As I was led to John’s account of Jesus coming into temple to drive out the moneychangers because of the robbery of the people (John 2:13-17), I realized it was during Passover that Jesus took a whip, turned over tables and cleansed the temple!

ZEAL FOR MY HOUSE TO BE PURE

The house of God had become a place where the worshippers who have traveled great distances to purchase animals for Passover sacrifice were being overcharged and robbed by moneychangers and the priests were approving it! As Jesus clears the place out, the disciples remembered what David the Psalmist declared in Psalms 69:9 “The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up” (John 2:17).

Let me explain something here, the word for zeal in the Hebrew means “to be jealous, to protect and guard one’s family and possession”. When John quotes this scripture, the Greek word for “zeal” means “something that heats up or boils”. God is an all-consuming fire and a jealous God (Deuteronomy 4:24). The Hebrew word for “consuming” in Deuteronomy 4:24 is the same Hebrew word for “eaten up” in Psalms 69:9. Here’s the revelation: what we eat or consume will consume us! As we commune with Jesus and eat of His flesh and drink of His blood, we will be consumed with what consumes Him!

The zeal for the purity of His house is consuming those who are consuming Him. Those who have been in the secret place of intimacy and prayer are being consumed with the zeal and jealousy of God for pure worship. It is a zeal that has been birthed out of the secret place of intimacy and according to His knowledge. It is the knowledge of seeing into the blueprint and pattern of what the dwelling place of God is supposed to look like. It is the heart of the Father that His house would again be a house of prayer for all nations so division and schisms that keep us apart can no longer remain (Isaiah 56:7).

GODLY JEALOUSY FOR HIS BRIDE

Paul declares a similar sentiment as he declares to the church of Corinth “For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy; for I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Messiah (2 Corinthians 11:2). This zeal is a godly zeal driven by the Lord to see His bride protected, clean and released out of mixture and bondage. This zeal will cause apostles and prophets to draw the bride closer to Jesus and not themselves. This zeal will not bring division in His body, but will produce unity and holiness by bringing separation from systems that keep us separated from Messiah and each other.

ARE YOU WILLING TO CARRY THE REPROACH THAT I CARRY SO MY HOUSE WILL BE PURE?

The second part of Psalms 69:9 is something the Lord brought to my attention as well. The first part of this verse speaks about the zeal, but the latter part deals with reproach: “And the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me”. If we are willing to be consumed with His zeal, we must also be equally willing to take on the reproach! Are we willing to endure the reproach and trials to see the pure worship of His house restored? Moses growing up in the treasures of Egypt counted the reproach of Messiah greater than the riches of Egypt (Hebrews 11:26)! I believe Passover is a prophetic picture of what is taking place right now. We must come into fellowship and communion with His death and Passover from death into life (John 5:24). May we be consumed with His zeal for pure worship that will flow from a pure bride who has made herself ready!
