Are you a prayer warrior? Are you ready to labour with the Lord in the birthing room of prayer? Has the life of Christ the Intercessor taken hold of your heart and compelled you to put your hand to the plough? Expect sweat and tears if you heed the call, and joy unspeakable full of glory.

God our Father scans the planet for such as this, the spiritual midwives called to the bedside of God’ purposes in the earth. Heaven’s purposes must be carefully brought forth through the womb of a man or woman touched by the Spirit of prayer.

Seeking God Seeking You

Much is spoken about our seeking God, but He too is looking for partners to share His secrets with.

“And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” (Ezekiel 22:30)

“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.” (John 4:23)

“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9)

Behind the closed door of the prayer closet history is made. It is here above all other places, not the Oval or cabinet offices, that the destinies of nations are determined.

But takers are few. Volunteers are thin-on-the-ground. Papa has to seek candidates out from the seething masses of the self-absorbed, and gently draw them to Himself.

But when He has found them, they become the delight of His heart.

Friends of God

Like daddy Abraham, we enter the realm of friendship, and the wonder of relationship with the Almighty bursts into full bloom. With this company of men and women who are acclimatised to the rarefied air of Heaven, Papa shares His secrets.

“The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him; and He will shew them His covenant.” (Psalms 25:14)

I particularly love the Message translation of this verse:

“God-friendship is for God-worshipers; They are the ones He confides in.” (Psalms 25:14 )

Can God confide in you?

In the place of prayer is it only your burdens that are the order of the day, or is Papa able to confide the concerns of His heart with you, His friend?

The Purpose of Heaven on The Menu

The realm of prayer comprises two broad realms that we are called to engage in; Fellowship with God and Partnership with God.

The Amplified Bible brings these out best: “God is faithful (reliable, trustworthy, and therefore ever true to His promise, and He can be depended on); by Him, you were called into companionship and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1 Corinthians 1:9)

In companionship, we seek His face. It is the realm of relationship, walking with God. Companionship is an infinite exploration of intimacy. [Check out my book Discovering and Developing a Secret Life of Prayer for more on this subject]

In participation, we seek His hand. It is the realm of partnership, working with God to establish His purposes and share His burdens. Participation is a deepening call to intercession.

God is not only calling you to greater intimacy. Your developing friendship is leading you to a deeper realm of participation in Heaven’s purposes. As you yield to the Spirit of prayer Papa will increasingly bring His requests to you, just as you are accustomed to bringing yours to Him.
