There’s nothing better than a morning devotion to start your day. Setting our eyes on the Lord as we wake up is like setting a plumbline for the day.

Retreat into the presence of God
Read Psalm 91:9-16 and meditate on His promises.
“Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—the Most High, who is my refuge—no evil shall be allowed to befall you,no plague come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.
“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows My name. When he calls to Me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.”
How many promises do we see God making in these few verses? There are at least 14 promises in just a few verses that the Lord gives to those who trust in Him and who have made the Lord their own, personal, dwelling place.
Just to name a few:
- I will protect you
- No evil shall be allowed to befall you
- I will answer you when you call
- I will command my angels concerning you
- I will guard you in all your ways
Let’s take a deeper look – what does it even mean to make the Lord your “dwelling place”? Strong’s Dictionary sees the phrase “dwelling place” defined as the Temple of the Lord, a place of retreat or a literal house/place of dwelling.
Let’s focus on this usage of “retreat”. We can relate to this word and the feeling of comfort that comes from it because we all need to just retreat and get away from life from time to time. YET, the usage of this word isn’t meant for “time to time”, but for a constant place of retreat.
Don’t miss your morning devotion!
Many people will use outside sources for a sense of “retreat” from the world. Some people use TV, some people use social media and some people will use substances like food, alcohol or even drugs. But as people who have been adopted into the Kingdom of God where everything we could ever need is right at our fingertips, all we have to do is RETREAT into the presence of God!
It’s there that we find everything we need, and it’s there where our hearts are positioned to receive things from the Lordlike protection, answers, peace, guidance, etc.
So as you begin your day, invite your heart to a retreat within the presence of the Lord. Let yourself dwell within His arms and soak in the goodness and fulfillment of His presence! Have a wonderful day full of presence and peace!
