To find our true identity, we must be brought to the end of ourselves.

By Amie Rogers & Anne Marie Molster

Understanding our true identity, which comes from Christ, is a constant journey throughout this lifetime. It is also the enemy’s relentless pursuit to keep us far from finding our God-given identity. The enemy goes to great lengths to shift us into believing his many lies. He does his best to create circumstances that would further us from the truth and take us into something we would never choose for ourselves. Instead of living in the position as co-heir to The Throne and manifesting our Heavenly inheritance, we often get trapped into a false identity reflective of our shattered lives caused by childhood trauma, abuses, addictions, infidelity, broken marriages and poverty – to name a few of the enemy’s drastic tactics that ultimately cause an identity crisis in each of us.

“But God's mercy is so abundant, and his love for us is so great, that while we were spiritually dead in our disobedience he brought us to life with Christ. It is by God's grace that you have been saved. In our union with Christ Jesus he raised us up with him to rule with him in the heavenly world. He did this to demonstrate for all time to come the extraordinary greatness of his grace in the love he showed us in Christ Jesus. For it is by God's grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God's gift, so that no one can boast about it.

God has made us what we are, and in our union with Christ Jesus he has created us for a life of good deeds, which he has already prepared for us to do.” Ephesians 2:4-10 GNB

To find our true identity, we must be brought to the end of ourselves. If we look at the life of Solomon in Ecclesiastes, chapters one and two, we can see that he often felt as if everything was meaningless. Even after receiving greater wisdom and knowledge from the Lord, he felt this life was a senseless pursuit. Even the power Solomon obtained through wisdom and wealth had no meaning when separated from His commitment to God. He discovered that without an intimate relationship with the Lord, he had very little purpose. Rather than “chasing the wind”, Solomon recognized that just as all good things came from God, God also needed to be the foundation of who he was and what he was to accomplish.

We can begin this journey of discovering our identity by first seeing ourselves the way Christ sees us. We must know who and whose we are in order to be all that we are created to be.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Psalm 139:13-16 NIV

Many of us know deep within our spiritual being that we are meant for more than what we are currently doing and pursuing. How often are we walking around being uncomfortable in our own skin because of the false beliefs we have about ourselves? Whether we have believed the lies whispered to us in our thoughts or we live in the identity of a label placed upon us by someone else, we are living in an oppressed state rather than in the fullness God intended.

Deep within us burns a passion that was ignited by the fire of God. He is fanning the flames of these fires so we are overwhelmed with a desire to be all we have been created to be. Every single person who has breath in their lungs has been given a purpose. There is not one person that is a mistake. Although some may have had parents who gave you up at birth, unable to care for you, or you have experienced abandonment issues in other areas of your life as a teen or an adult – you must know that you have a Heavenly Father that planned and purposed you for such a time as this! (Esther 4:14 AMP)

Our Creator has always wanted you and loves you more deeply than anyone could, from now through eternity. Once you know your priceless value and worth, you will begin to walk it out in the manifested presence of God.

“In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,” Ephesians 1:11 NIV

The journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land was so amazing and miraculous. (Exodus 12:31-42) Yet, their journey was long and arduous. In this story, the generation that was brought out of slavery did not get to enter into the Promised Land, it was the next generation that walked in. (Numbers 14:30) Each of our life journeys are a lot like the Israelites’ desert time. We move through our desert seasons with God’s love and grace as He transforms us, so that we are then able to walk into His Promised Land well before the future generations we are contending for.

There are things He has purposed us to do outside our desert. The desert gives way for us to place our full dependence upon God to provide for all our needs and it brings us to the end of ourselves. Each piece of us that we lay down, He replaces with His version of what He originally intended. He takes away our pride, our selfishness, our rejected and broken hearts, He heals our wounds, He places justice and forgiveness over all our wrongs and heals all our sicknesses; physical and emotional.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 NIV

We begin to understand our true identity when we are able to navigate this journey with spiritual discernment, much like an internal GPS. If we are pursuing anything outside of our spiritual nature in Christ, we will feel dissatisfied. There is a peace and an overwhelming joy that fills our spirit when our behavior and actions come into alignment with our identity in Him.

“So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”” 1 Peter 1:14-16 NLT

Once we begin to walk in our true identity in Christ, seeing ourselves as He sees us, we begin to carry the Lord’s presence with us. Moving in His presence will allow us to shift atmospheres with unprecedented authority and dominion over all that comes against us and all that falls behind us! As we make each step, tapping into His power deep within, the full glory of God will surround us! Ultimately enabling us to walk out the mission for which we are called; our destiny – one marked since the beginning of time with our identity in mind!

“…what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority—” Psalms 8:4-6 NLT

Anne Marie Molster is a wife and mother of two daughters who shares the heart of the Lord through her prophetic writing. After standing strong in her faith through many seasons that could have easily defeated her, her passion is to give hope to others by showing God's deep compassion for His children while instilling the belief that they can do anything through Christ who strengthens them. She prays that they will find great faith in what is unseen, rather than what is seen in the natural. Through her testimony and the many signs and wonders that Anne Marie has experienced, she wants others to see God as their Father in Heaven who is constantly working on their behalf, working all things for the good of those who love Him.

Amie Rogers is a lover of Jesus Christ, a wife and mother of four who operates in the gift of the prophetic, processing life through her writing. Having lived through many triumphs and tragedies she has been gifted with plenty of humility and some wisdom. Amie has been moved to share her journey with absolute transparency. She is compelled to show others the redemptive, restorative and healing power of Jesus through encouragement, prophetic words and His healing touch. Her mission is to speak His Life & His Love, inviting others in to hear the Lord’s heartbeat for them.

Together, Anne Marie and Amie have started a ministry based on raw & real life conversations with Biblical perspectives.
