SHOW NOTES

Sex trafficking is in the spotlight this week with major cases hitting the news. But did you know there’s a spirit behind this heart-breaking crime and it’s mentioned in the Bible?

This is Jennifer LeClaire, and this is Praying the News. On today’s broadcast, we’ll look at some sex trafficking victories, the state of sex trafficking and the spirit behind sex trafficking. I’ll also give you some prayer points to combat this satanic industry.

You’ve probably heard Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison for conspiring with Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse minors over the course of a decade.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said:  “Today’s sentence holds Ghislaine Maxwell accountable for perpetrating heinous crimes against children. This sentence sends a strong message that no one is above the law and it is never too late for justice.”

That victory was followed by a 30-year prison sentence for disgraced R&B singer R. Kelley, following his 2021 conviction on federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges.

According to CNN, survivors of Kelly's abuse held hands and prayed as U.S. District Court Judge Ann Donnelly began reading his sentence. Kelly showed no emotion, and still faces a federal trial in August on child pornography charges.

BedBible.com offers some shocking statistics on sex trafficking. For example, did you know 35 million people are victims of sex trafficking every day and a majority of those cases go undetected? Sex trafficking is estimated to be a $99 billion industry.

Online recruitment increased 22 percent during the pandemic. And there have never been so many child victims. Worldwide, almost 20 percent of victims are children. In some parts of Africa and the Mekong region, children are up to 100 percent of the victims.

Christine Caine, founder of the A21 Movement, offers some insight into sex trafficking. Listen to the podcast to hear the clip.

Did you know there’s a spirit behind this?

The Book of Revelation speaks of a time when Babylon, which is the world’s economic system will fall. Revelation 18:11-13 reads, “And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore, cargo of gold, silver, jewels, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, scarlet cloth, all kinds of scented wood, all kinds of articles of ivory, all kinds of articles of costly wood, bronze, iron and marble, cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human souls.”

Did you catch that? Human souls.

Babylon is both a symbol and a spirit. The spirit of Babylon will continue to rise in the end times. That’s why the heaven warns in Revelation 18:4, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.”

Sadly, many in the church today are partnering with Babylon. Pornography and greed are running rampant in the church. We see celebrity preachers using social media to posture in photo shoots. We see false prophets pimping spiritual gifts for their prosperity. We see Christians addicted to pornography and having abortions.

“Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.”

Thankfully, the Holy Spirit is raising up a remnant of pure hearted believers who understand, like the great heroes of faith in centuries past, that prayer and evangelism are bedrocks of the church. Jesus gave us a Great Commission, fueled by prayer and people willing to risk their lives for the gospel.

We need to pray and rescue sex trafficking victims. These modern-day slaves are crying out, and we need to be agents of justice through intercession. So, how do we pray about sex trafficking?

Praise God for the victories we saw this week with the convictions of R. Kelly and Maxwell.

Pray for action regarding new laws and the enforcement of existing sex trafficking laws.

Pray sex traffickers will be caught and brought to justice swiftly.

Pray for the victims of sex trafficking to be rescued and restored.

Pray for would-be victims of sex trafficking to be protected and preserved from attackers.

Pray for an end to sex trafficking.

Thanks for listening. Please give us a five-star review wherever you listen to podcasts and share this with your friends. Find the show notes at www.jenniferleclaire.org/prayingthenews.
