SHOW NOTES

The Supreme Court in a 6-3 decision on Friday overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that established the constitutional right to abortion in the U.S. in 1973.

This is the fruit of decades of fervent prayer from pro-life intercessors and we’re rightly celebrating in this hour as the giant of abortion has been toppled in America, at least temporarily.

I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but I’ve said this for years: You can’t legislate morality.

Liberal legislators have already thought through plans to minimize the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to remove its blessing from abortion. And remember, before Roe v. Wade, women performed their own abortion in gruesome ways, including with wire hangers.

No, the pro-life battle is far from over.

This is Jennifer LeClaire, and this is Praying the News. On today’s broadcast, we’ll look at reactions to Roe v. Wade from the faith community but we’ll also press into the reality that now is not the time to lay down our slings and stones.

Today’s broadcast is brought to you by Awakening Prayer Hubs, a prayer movement endorsed by Lou Engle, Cindy Jacobs, James Goll and many others. Join the prayer movement today. Launch a hub and let’s press in to complete the work we’ve started through intercession and prayer evangelism that breaks down barriers to the gospel.

Again, I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but I’ve said this for years: You can’t legislate morality.

Prophetically speaking, if we stop praying now we could quickly lose ground. Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, states still have the right to set their own abortion laws.

The enemy wants us to get so caught up in celebrating that we put our swords down. That would be a grave error. I’ve taught for years that we must pray all the way through the breakthrough. Roe v. Wade dying is a major breakthrough but it’s not the ultimate breakthrough.

No, the ultimate breakthrough is when women no longer want to kill their babies. The ultimate breakthrough is when scared women turn to Jesus and find salvation. The ultimate breakthrough is when the church rises up and helps provide adoption solutions so women have an alternative other than abortion. You get the idea.

If you are not part of Awakening Prayer Hubs, now is the time to launch a hub to focus on your city. Pray for an awakening because without an awakening abortion won’t go away. Scared and desperate women will find other ways to kill their babies, even if that means flying to another nation to have the procedure done. Lawsuits are already being filed.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m celebrating the turnover of Roe v. Wade, but I am still doing what Paul told the church at Thessalonica, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:16). We can rejoice and fight at the same time. We really can. And we must. Roe v. Wade overturning should fuel our fervency to fight to the finish line. God is moving on this issue. Let’s keep crying out!

Where do states stand on abortion? Politico is reporting abortion is illegal, or soon to be, in 16 states post-Roe. But not much will change immediately. It could take up to 30 days to see the impacts. The enemy is still working, so we must keep praying.

Abortion will remain legal in at least 27 states.

And abortion pills may still be accessible.

In December 2021, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration made permanent a rule that allows patients to consult with prescribers through telehealth and receive abortion pills—also known as medical abortion—by mail, according to Fox 5. Although federal law trumps state law, Fox said, it’s still unclear whether states will be able to restrict the pills in a post-Roe America according to abortion law experts.

We need to keep praying.

We also need to pray as President Biden warned overturning Roe v. Wade would cause a mini-revolution in November’s elections. We could see liberals turn out to the polls in droves. We could see Congress work to pass new laws allowing abortions. Anything can happen. The battle is not over. Not by a long shot. So we rejoice and pray. Sort of like how Nehemiah’s men had a sword in one hand and a tool in the other, we can build on this victory but we still have to fight to maintain what we’ve won. And we must war for souls. Franklin Graham told Fox News, “Roe v. Wade, passed 49 years ago, has resulted in the deaths of over 63 million innocent children in this country. Sadly, this decision is not an end to abortion—it pushes the battle back to the states. My prayer is that every state will enact protections for children in the womb, and that our nation will value life and recognize the rights of our most vulnerable.”

That’s my prayer, too.

Will you join me? Awakening Prayer Hubs leaders are seeing breakthrough in their personal life, breakthrough in their cities, and breakthrough in their nations.
