“Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold…but with the precious blood of Christ.” (1 Peter 1:18-19)
Do you know how valuable you are? In today’s society, it is easy to place your value or identity on any number of things, such as the amount of friends, likes, comments, and affirmations that you receive on social media. Unfortunately, far too many people do this, and it becomes a snare.
Don’t fall into that trap, friend.
If your identity or value is found in your social media account(s), your relationship, spouse, friendships, job title, wealth, appearance, accomplishments… the list goes on… then, your opinion of yourself will change like shifting shadows.
Stop viewing yourself through a cracked mirror
When we have a misplaced view of ourselves, we don’t see ourselves the way that God sees us. A few years ago, the Lord pointed out an illustration of this, when I picked up a mirror that was cracked in the middle. When, I looked at myself through that broken mirror, the image was distorted, and I was not portrayed accurately. The Holy Spirit told me to share this with others, so that they would stop viewing themselves through “a cracked mirror” and view themselves according to Scripture.
Psalm 139:13-14 states, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
When your identity is found in Christ—the solid Rock—then you can remain fixed and steady on the eternal, unchanging One. He loves you so much that He died for you and conquered death to give you the opportunity to have eternal life (Romans 5:8). He wants a personal relationship with you! He sees your worth and value, which is beyond compare!
The loving Heavenly Father can use your insecurities, fears, and weaknesses to enable you to do things you never dreamed.
Take Gideon, for instance – one minute, hiding in a cave “shaking in his shoes”; the next called by God to victoriously lead an army into battle against a formidable foe (Judges 6). What changed? The calling and the power of God came upon him. The Sovereign Creator chose fearful Gideon because He could see what Gideon could not—a man of valor. And, He turned a “coward” into a warrior. I love how God can do the same with us!
Are you hiding in a “cave” bound by your own fears, inadequacies, insecurities, or limitations? If so, you’re in very good company. God shows Himself strong to those that recognize their weaknesses and humbly surrender to His leading. In Scripture, Gideon, Moses, and David are examples of this…Just to name a few.
Don’t let the world define your worth
God loves you and has a plan for your life. When you line up what you see in the mirror with Scripture, the truth of God will wash over you and remind you of your true value and calling. As you place your identity in Him, allow His Voice to speak truth and destiny over your life and let His perfect plans unfold.
“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.’” (Jeremiah 29:11-13)
