SHOW NOTES

Droughts are nothing new, but we’re seeing a deluge of droughts in the nations. Is this a coincidence, or a sign of the times?

This is Jennifer LeClaire, and this is Praying the News. On today’s broadcast we’ll look at the rise of coinciding droughts around the world, as well as the ripple effect its causing in the light of Scripture. We’ll answer the question, “Are these droughts warnings of the end-times drought that is to come in Revelation 11?” And of course, we’ll pray the news.

I’ll be right back with you after a message from our sponsor, SchooloftheSpirit.tv.

Any student of Scripture can see what is happening in the earth with droughts in one place and flash floods in the other. We’re literally seeing historic droughts all around us. There are historic droughts in the United States, China, Africa and Europe—all at the same time. This has never before happened in recorded history and its rippling hard through the agricultural industry and the economy. And we haven’t even seen the half of the ripple yet.

In the U.S., California communities are receiving drought funding amid extreme conditions. Dry rivers and wildfires are worsening as droughts continue in Massachusetts even while Rhode Island declares a drought-related disaster. In fact, most of New England is suffering drought.

Meanwhile, news media is reporting drought conditions in Texas are so bad that a dried up river is revealing dinosaur tracks from 113 million years ago.

Across the pond in Europe, the continent is seeing its worst drought in 500 years—partly due to an unprecedented heat wave. And a heat wave in China is drying up rivers there, wilting crops and sparking forest fires.

Africa is not left out of the drought mix. Drought-included loss of livestock in the Horn of Africa is expected to impact communities for years to come. More than 7 million livestock have died, leaving millions of people facing the threat of starvation in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia.

This is just a taste of what is happening. What is going on in the spirit?

In Scripture, droughts were seen as a curse. Deuteronomy 28:12 speaks of the blessing of obedience, “The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.”

Deuteronomy 28:23 offers insight into the curse, “And your heavens which are over your head shall be bronze, and the earth which is under you shall be iron. The Lord will change the rain of your land to powder and dust; from the heaven it shall come down on you until you are destroyed.”

Call it a curse, or call it reaping what we’ve sown. Whatever you want to call it, drought is not a blessing.

Could it be possible we’re seeing a foreshadowing of end-time events? Is this a merciful warning from heaven to wake up and pray for souls?

Throughout Scripture we saw droughts and subsequent famines. Under the evil rulership of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel, it didn’t rain for three and a half years. Can you imagine the carnage that resulted from this drought? Jeremiah described a drought in Judah. Let’s look at Jeremiah 14 starting in verse 2:

“Judah wilts; commerce at the city gates grinds to a halt. All the people sit on the ground in mourning, and a great cry rises from Jerusalem. The nobles send servants to get water, but all the wells are dry. The servants return with empty pitchers, confused and desperate, covering their heads in grief.

“The ground is parched and cracked for lack of rain. The farmers are deeply troubled; they, too, cover their heads. Even the doe abandons her newborn fawn because there is no grass in the field. The wild donkeys stand on the bare hills panting like thirsty jackals. They strain their eyes looking for grass, but there is none to be found.”

“The people say, ‘Our wickedness has caught up with us, Lord, but help us for the sake of your own reputation. We have turned away from you and sinned against you again and again. O Hope of Israel, our Savior in times of trouble, why are you like a stranger to us? Why are you like a traveler passing through the land, stopping only for the night? Are you also confused? Is our champion helpless to save us? You are right here among us, Lord. We are known as your people. Please don’t abandon us now!”

“So this is what the Lord says to his people: ‘You love to wander far from me and do not restrain yourselves. Therefore, I will no longer accept you as my people. Now I will remember all your wickedness and will punish you for your sins.”

Wow. The world needs to repent and come to Jesus—and so do many in the church.

Prophetically speaking, I believe all these simultaneous droughts are a sign of the times—and a sign of things to come. I believe the Holy Spirit is trying to get our attention.

Revelation 11:6 says the two witnesses, “have power to shut the sky so that no rain will fall for as long as they prophesy. And they have the power to turn the rivers and oceans into blood, and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they wish.”

Revelation 11:3 tells us they will prophesy for 1,260 days. So that could speak to a three-and-a-half-year drought just like in the days of Elijah.

So, how do we pray?

Repent. 1 Kings 8:35-36 says, “When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against You, when they pray toward this place and confess Your name, and turn from their sin because You afflict them, then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on Your land which You have given to Your people as an inheritance.”

Enter into identificational repentance for your nation, like Daniel did.

As Elijah did, let’s pray for rain.

Pray Psalm 65:9, Father, visit the earth and water it abundantly, enriching it greatly. Fill the streams with water and prepare the earth in this way, providing us with food.

Pray Leviticus 27:4, Give us our rains in their seasons, Lord, that the land can yield its increase and the trees of the field shall produce fruit.

Pray Job 5:10, Lord, give rain on the earth and send waters on the fields.

Pray Deuteronomy 11:14, Lord, give us the early rain and the latter rain, that we may gather our crops for food.

Pray Psalm 147:8, Lord, prepare rain for the earth.

Just keep praying for rain.
