It’s no secret that the enemy is targeting families. It was a strategy we saw in the world’s first family. The enemy seeks to divide, disrupt, and destroy the unity and peace that God intends for our homes. But we have an undeniable truth on our side: the Word of God is a shield and buckler (Psalm 91:4), and through prayer, we can access heaven’s protection over our families.
If there’s ever been a time to fervently pray for your loved ones, it’s now. Let me equip you with strategies to stand as a spiritual gatekeeper, fortifying your family against the fiery darts of the enemy.
1. Claim the Promises of Psalm 91
Psalm 91 is a covenant of protection. Declare it over your family daily:
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)
When you pray this, visualize your family dwelling under the protective wings of the Almighty. Speak every promise out loud, placing your family’s name in the verses:
“No evil shall befall [your family], nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.” (Psalm 91:10)
2. Plead the Blood of Jesus
The blood of Jesus is one of the most powerful weapons we have in spiritual warfare. It speaks of redemption, protection, and victory. Just as the Israelites applied the blood of the lamb to their doorposts to protect against the angel of death (Exodus 12:7), we can plead the blood of Jesus over our homes. Declare:
“I apply the blood of Jesus over every entry point into my home. I plead the blood of Jesus over my family members—mind, body, and spirit. No weapon formed against us shall prosper.” (Isaiah 54:17)
3. Establish Angelic Assignments
Hebrews 1:14 reminds us that angels are ministering spirits sent to serve those who inherit salvation. You can release angelic protection over your family through prayer. Say:
“Father, I thank You for sending angels to encamp around my family. I ask You to position warring angels to guard our home, our vehicles, and everywhere my family goes. Let angels stand watch at the gates of our lives, ensuring no harm comes near us.” (Psalm 34:7)
4. Pray Against the Spirit of Division
The enemy thrives on division. One of his greatest tactics is to sow discord in families. Be vigilant in praying for unity:
“Father, I come against every spirit of division, strife, and misunderstanding in my family. Let the love of Christ abound in our hearts. I declare that we will walk in harmony and understanding, with Christ as the center of our relationships.” (Colossians 3:14)
5. Release Warfare Prayers Against the Enemy
Families are often targeted by spiritual attacks. You must be bold and aggressive in your prayers:
“In the name of Jesus, I bind every demonic assignment against my family. I cancel every curse, hex, or word curse spoken against us. I declare that no weapon formed against my household shall prosper. I loose confusion into the enemy’s camp and declare total victory over every attack.” (Matthew 18:18)
6. Pray for Wisdom and Discernment
Sometimes the greatest protection is being in the right place at the right time—or avoiding the wrong place altogether. Ask God for discernment:
“Lord, I ask for Your wisdom to guide every decision my family makes. Protect us from traps set by the enemy. Open our spiritual eyes to see danger and guide us in paths of righteousness.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
7. Bless Your Family with the Word of God
Speak life and blessings over your loved ones. Declare the Word of God over their lives:
“Father, I declare that my family is blessed in the city and blessed in the field. My children are taught of the Lord, and great is their peace. My spouse and I walk in unity and purpose. We are the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath.” (Deuteronomy 28:3, Isaiah 54:13)
A Sample Prayer for Family Protection
Heavenly Father,
I come before You in the name of Jesus, thanking You for the gift of my family. I place each member under the covering of Your wings, asking for divine protection from every form of harm, danger, and evil. I plead the blood of Jesus over my home, my family, and all that concerns us. I bind every assignment of the enemy against us and declare that no weapon formed against us will prosper.
I ask You to release Your angels to guard and protect us, to guide us in all our ways, and to fight on our behalf. Let Your Word be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Father, fill our home with Your presence, Your peace, and Your power. I declare that my family belongs to You, and no plan of the enemy will succeed against us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Stand Watch Over Your Family
Interceding for your family is one of the greatest acts of love you can offer. As you consistently pray, declare the Word, and plead the blood of Jesus, you are building a spiritual fortress that no enemy can penetrate. Remember, you are not fighting alone; the Lord Himself goes before you and stands as your rear guard.
