Someone spoke something over you. And it landed whether you ever heard it or not.
You didn't have to receive it. You didn't have to agree with it. You didn't even have to be old enough to understand it. Words carry assignments, and assignments don't require your consent to go to work. That's what makes spoken curses so insidious: most people don't know they're living under one.
Proverbs 18:21 says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit." Maybe somebody released death over you. I had an actual death curse on my life at one time, and it kept me bedridden.
But who pulls the trigger on these curses?
The Parent Voice
Parental declarations carry tremendous spiritual weight. "You'll never amount to anything." "You're just like your father." "You're a problem." Some of you heard those words so many times they stopped sounding like insults and started sounding like identity. That's the assignment.
The enemy uses the parent voice because it is the first voice of authority a child knows. It goes straight into the spirit before any filter is in place. Your mother didn't know she was cursing you. Your father wasn't making a calculated demonic decision. But ignorance does not cancel the spiritual consequence of destructive speech. The words still went somewhere. They still opened a door.
The Self-Curse
This is the one most people overlook. You.
Every time you say "I can never get it right" or "Nothing ever works out for me," you are making a declaration. You are partnering with what the enemy already wants to establish. Proverbs 6:2 says, "You are snared by the words of your mouth."
That's a trap. Self-curses come in moments of pain — when a door closes and you say "I knew it. I never win." That's not venting. That's an agreement. And agreements have consequences.
Prophetic Malpractice
This one requires boldness to say. Some of you received a destructive word in a church service from someone operating in a supposed prophetic gift. A pastor declared your ministry was finished. A prophet spoke failure over your marriage. A spiritual authority used their position to wound rather than heal.
James 3:1 is not a casual warning. God holds leaders to a higher standard because their words carry amplified weight in the spirit. When someone in spiritual authority speaks a curse (even unknowingly) the enemy treats it as a sanctioned assignment. He uses the position of the speaker to validate the declaration.
Enemy Assignments
Curses sent through witchcraft, occult sources, or human agents operating in darkness are real and targeted. Psalm 64:3 calls them arrows. I'm talking about bitter words aimed and released with intent. You don't have to be in agreement with them. You don't even have to know they were sent. But Galatians 3:13 is your answer. Christ has redeemed you from every curse. The blood has already purchased your freedom. You have to enforce it.
You cannot renounce what you have not named. Bring it into the light.
The words that cursed you are not more powerful than the Word that redeems you. Every assignment has an expiration date when you enforce the finished work of the cross.
You are not who they said you are. You are who God says you are.
