You may not call it dread. You may just feel like you can never fully relax. Your mind is always preparing for the next problem. Even when nothing is wrong, you feel like something is about to go wrong.

Good news comes, but instead of enjoying it, part of you wonders what bad news will follow. You wake up already feeling pressure. You rehearse conversations that have not happened, prepare for outcomes that may never come, and find yourself mentally living three steps ahead because your mind does not feel safe in the present.

That is what survival mode looks like.

Dread keeps your mind braced for impact. It convinces you that constant vigilance is wisdom, that expecting the worst will somehow protect you, and that peace is dangerous because the moment you relax, something will happen.

But that is not the mind of Christ.

God did not create you to live under a constant expectation of disaster. If your mind has been trapped in fear, foreboding, and the relentless anticipation of trouble, today we are going to rebuke the spirit of dread and command your mind to come out of survival mode in Jesus' name.

Perfect Peace Is a Posted Guard

Hear the promise before the command. "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You" (Isaiah 26:3). The Hebrew does not say peace once. It says it twice. Shalom, shalom. Peace upon peace. A double portion of quiet for the mind that stops staring at the threat and starts staring at the Lord.

Peace guards. Peace is not your weakness. Peace is the sentry God posts over your mind. You keep standing watch because part of you believes that if you stop scanning, everything falls apart. It will not. He never stops watching, and He does not sleep.

Come Out of Survival Mode

So bring Him the weight. "Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7). Cast it. Do not carry it. Do not rehearse it. Hand it to the One who cares about the outcome.

Then rebuke what has been ruling you. You do not manage dread. You do not negotiate with it. You rebuke it.
