Check out my course, Python: Breaking the Grip of Constricting Witchcraft, at https://www.
Not everything that sounds right is right. Not every voice that agrees with you is on your side. Not every supernatural manifestation comes from God. If you miss that, you will open the door to deception while thinking you are standing in truth.
That is exactly why the Python spirit must be exposed.
Python’s Perfect-Sounding Proclamation
Watch what happened in Philippi. “This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, ‘These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation’” (Acts 16:17).
Read that again. Every word was accurate. Paul was a servant of the Most High God. He was proclaiming the way of salvation. If you only listened to the words, you would have called it a prophetic confirmation.
But the source was not the Holy Spirit. Scripture says she was “possessed with a spirit of divination” (Acts 16:16). A true statement came out of a false source. That is the first thing we have to expose. Python does not always lie with its words. Sometimes it lies with its source.
Python’s Profit-Driven Purpose
This spirit had an agenda. The girl “brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling” (Acts 16:16). The Greek word is manteuomai. It means to divine, to deliver oracles the way pagan soothsayers did. This was not revelation. It was a business.
Follow the money and you find the motive. “But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities” (Acts 16:19). The moment the spirit lost its grip, the persecution started. Python was never about the gospel. It was about control, gain, and keeping a vulnerable young woman in bondage.
Python’s Piggybacking Ploy
Notice what this spirit tried to do. It attached itself to Paul’s ministry. It blurred the line between divination and the gospel. If Paul had let it keep crying out, the people of Philippi could easily have connected the message of Jesus with the fortune-teller down the street.
That is the danger. Python seeks association. Python seeks a platform. Python seeks to muddy the message until people cannot tell the difference between the holy and the profane.
Discernment Is Your Defense
So how do you stand? Not by becoming suspicious of everyone. Not by labeling people you disagree with. The Bible gives a better way. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1).
Discernment weighs more than words. Discernment weighs the source. Discernment weighs the fruit. Discernment weighs the purpose. Discernment asks whether it exalts Christ or exploits people. And discernment depends on the Holy Spirit, not on a technique.
Remember too that the girl was not the enemy. She was the captive. Paul confronted the spirit, not the person. “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her” (Acts 16:18). And she walked free that very hour.
Expose It and Refuse It
Python thrives in the shadows of half-truths and blended voices. Bring it into the light. Test what you hear. Weigh what you receive. Hold every voice up to the Word of God and the witness of the Spirit. Refuse the counterfeit. Cling to the real. When the name of Jesus is lifted up, Python loses its cover and loses its grip.
