Some delays in your life didn’t originate in hell—they originated in your own mouth… or in the mouth of someone you trusted.
Word curses are one of the enemy’s most subtle, potent weapons to entangle your forward motion. These curses don’t always come from witches or occultists—sometimes they come from parents, pastors, spouses, teachers… or even from you.
The Bible is clear: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21). If death can come through the tongue, so can delays—because death is a form of delay. It stops movement. It severs assignment. And it silences destiny.
What Are Word Curses?
Word curses are demonic decrees disguised as everyday speech. They are judgments spoken in agreement with Satan’s will for your life, not God’s.
Some common word curses sound like:
- “I’ll always struggle.”
- “I’m so unlucky.”
- “Nobody wants what I carry.”
- “God’s never going to do this for me.”
Even worse are the judgments others have spoken:
- “You’re not qualified.”
- “You’re too old.”
- “You always quit.”
- “God’s never going to use someone like you.”
And if you came into agreement with those words—by believing them, repeating them, or accepting them—they became legal barriers in the realm of the spirit. Word curses are like contracts with the enemy. But praise God, every curse can be broken!
How to Break Word Curses That Cause Delay
1. Repent for every word you’ve spoken in agreement with delay.
Before you deal with external curses, deal with the internal ones. Go before the Lord and repent for every idle, fearful, unbelieving, self-limiting word you’ve spoken. You must close the door of agreement.
“I tell you that on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak.” —Matthew 12:36
2. Renounce every word curse—yours or someone else’s.
Say it out loud. “I renounce the word curse that says I’m always late… I renounce the word curse that says I’ll never be free… I cancel every word spoken over me that’s out of alignment with God’s truth.” Your voice breaks its power.
3. Replace the curse with God’s truth.
The demonic doesn’t leave a vacuum. If you break a curse but don’t replace it with truth, you leave room for deception to re-enter. Find the Word, speak the Word, and meditate on it until it transforms how you think.
Example: Instead of saying “I’m always overlooked,” declare: “Surely goodness and mercy follow me, and the favor of the Lord surrounds me like a shield” (Psalm 23:6, Psalm 5:12).
4. Speak blessings over your destiny.
Once you’ve broken the curse, bless what the curse targeted—your mind, your ministry, your finances, your time. Get aggressive. You’re not just undoing damage—you’re planting something holy where the enemy sowed delay.
Real Talk: You Have Authority
Stop letting your own words block your own prayers. You are not a victim of word curses—you are a weapon against them.
Your voice is a gate. Either it lets the devil in or drives him out. Open your mouth, break the curse, and step into forward motion.
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.” —Isaiah 54:17

I renounce every word I’ve believed—spoken by myself or others—that opposes Your plans for my life. I cancel those decrees now in the name of Jesus. I break every word curse that has kept me bound, confused, stuck, or afraid. I declare that I am not cursed—I am blessed. I speak life over my destiny. I speak acceleration over my calling. I speak breakthrough over every delay. I seal it in the blood of Jesus. Amen.
