December Decrees: Speaking God’s Word Over Your Month

As we step into the final month of the year, it’s crucial to align our hearts and words with God’s will. December is often a time of reflection, celebration, and preparation for the new year, but it’s also a time to decree and declare the Word of the Lord over your life, your family, and your future.

The Bible teaches us the power of decrees. Job 22:28 (KJV) declares, “Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.” A decree is more than a prayer; it’s a bold, faith-filled declaration of God’s promises, releasing His power into the natural realm.

Let’s explore what decrees are, why they are effective, and what we should be decreeing this December.

What Are Decrees?

A decree is a declaration made with authority. In the natural, kings issue decrees to establish their will across their kingdoms. In the spiritual realm, believers—operating under the authority of Jesus Christ, the King of Kings—issue decrees to establish God’s will in the earth.

When we decree God’s Word, we are not making something up or speaking out of our own desires. We are agreeing with what God has already said. Isaiah 55:11 reminds us that God’s Word will not return void but will accomplish what He pleases. When we align our decrees with His Word, we release His will into every situation.

Why Are Decrees Effective?

Decrees are effective because they are rooted in God’s authority and His promises. When we decree, we are activating heaven’s power over earthly circumstances.

  1. They Align You with Heaven’s Will
Decrees are a way of agreeing with what heaven is already saying. Amos 3:7 says, “Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.” By decreeing His revealed will, we partner with Him to bring it to pass.
  2. They Build Faith
Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” As you decree God’s promises, you are speaking and hearing His Word, building faith in your spirit.
  3. They Push Back Darkness
Decrees establish God’s truth in the face of the enemy’s lies. Revelation 12:11 reminds us that we overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. Decrees are a weapon in spiritual warfare, driving out darkness and establishing the light of God’s truth.
  4. They Release Angels to Act
Psalm 103:20 says, “Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.” Angels respond to God’s Word spoken in faith. Your decrees activate angelic assistance to bring God’s promises to pass.

What Should You Be Decreeing in December?

As we close out the year, here are some strategic decrees to make for this month:

  1. Decree Breakthrough and Vindication
“For the LORD has vindicated us; come, let us recount the righteous deeds of the LORD” (Isaiah 12:4).
Declare that every injustice and delay will be overturned by God’s hand. Decree that the breakthroughs you’ve been waiting for will manifest in this season.
  2. Decree Restoration
“I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten” (Joel 2:25).
Speak restoration over relationships, finances, health, and anything the enemy has stolen. God is a God of restoration, and December can be your season of divine recovery.
  3. Decree Divine Alignment
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD” (Psalm 37:23).
Speak that your steps will be aligned with God’s purpose. Decree that you will finish this year strong and enter the new year with clarity and purpose.
  4. Decree Financial Overflow
“The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses” (Deuteronomy 28:8).
Declare that financial blessings and provision will flow into your life. Decree an open heaven over your finances and resources.
  5. Decree Peace and Joy
“The joy of the LORD is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).
Declare that you will walk in supernatural peace and joy, regardless of the circumstances. Decree that anxiety, fear, and depression will bow to the Prince of Peace.
  6. Decree New Beginnings
“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth” (Isaiah 43:19).
Speak forth new opportunities, open doors, and divine appointments. Declare that God is doing a new thing in your life this December.

How to Make Your Decrees

When you decree, speak with boldness and authority. Don’t just think it; declare it out loud. Write down your decrees and meditate on the scriptures that back them up. Partner your decrees with faith and thanksgiving, knowing that God is faithful to His Word.

Let me encourage you to set aside time each day this month to decree God’s Word over your life. December is a strategic month to end the year in victory and prepare for what God has planned in the year ahead.

As you decree, remember Proverbs 18:21: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Your words have power. Use them to speak life, establish God’s will, and release His blessings over your December.

Decree it. Believe it. Watch God establish it.
