Get my new course, Destroying Evil Altars, here.
Your adversary the devil is roaming about hatching evil plots against you. His agenda is clear: to steal, kill and destroy. His schemes can be subtle and overwhelming.
Thanks be to God, Scripture speaks explicitly about evil plots and provides wisdom on how to confront and overcome them. Armed with this information, you’ll be poised to break the powers of evil plots designed against you.
Understanding Evil Plots
The concept of evil plots is not foreign to the scriptures. In Psalms, David frequently laments about the schemes of his enemies. Psalm 37:12 states, “The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them.”
And in Proverbs 6:18, we find, “a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil.” These verses highlight that evil plots are deliberate schemes crafted to harm or derail believers from their divine path.
Manifestations of Evil Plots
Evil plots can manifest in various ways:
- False Accusations: As seen in the story of Joseph, where his brothers plotted against him out of jealousy (Gen. 37:18-20).
- Betrayal: Judas Iscariot's betrayal of Jesus for thirty pieces of silver (Matt. 26:14-16) is a prime example.
- Slander and Gossip: These can tarnish reputations and sow discord within communities.
- Spiritual Attacks: These include temptations, oppression, and any tactic that aims to weaken a believer's faith and trust in God.
Stopping Evil Plots with Spiritual Warfare
We need to get militant against the militant forces that are plotting evil against us. Here are a few biblical strategies:
- Prayer and Fasting: Jesus highlighted the power of prayer and fasting in Matthew 17:21. These practices make us more sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s voice. As we crucify our flesh, we walk in greater manifestations of authority and power.
- The Word of God: Scripture is a powerful weapon against evil plots. Ephesians 6:17 describes the Word as the “sword of the Spirit.” Memorizing and declaring scriptures like Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper,” reinforces our defense against the enemy.
- Faith and Trust in God: Believing in God’s protection s crucial. Psalm 91:1-2 assures us of God's refuge and fortress. Trusting Him to deliver us from evil plots is an act of faith that moves mountains.
- Confession and Repentance: Maintaining a pure heart through confession and repentance removes any legal grounds the enemy might have. 1 John 1:9 reminds us of God's faithfulness to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- The Blood of Jesus: Revelation 12:11 speaks of overcoming the enemy “by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.” The blood of Jesus is a potent weapon in spiritual warfare, symbolizing redemption and victory.
- Discernment and Wisdom: Asking God for discernment (see James 1:5) helps us recognize and counteract the enemy’s schemes before they take root. Wisdom guides us to act prudently and avoid pitfalls.
- Praise and Worship: Worship shifts our focus from the problem to the Problem-Solver. It confuses the enemy and invites God's presence into our situation, as seen in 2 Chronicles 20:22, where the Israelites' praise led to the defeat of their enemies.
Evil plots against believers are real and persistent, but they are no match for the power of God and the weapons of our spiritual warfare. By immersing ourselves in prayer, the Word of God, and relying on the Holy Spirit's guidance, we can thwart the enemy's schemes and walk in victory.
Remember, our deliverance is secured in Christ, and through Him, we are more than conquerors. Stand firm, beloved, and watch as God turns every evil plot into a testimony of His faithfulness and power.
