God is Ordering Your Steps—If You Let Him

There’s an often-quoted scripture in Psalms that says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way” (Psalm 37:23). But what does it really mean for God to order our steps? Why is it so critical for believers to allow Him to guide our every move? And how can we recognize when God is ordering our steps, especially in a world full of distractions, temptations, and detours?

Why Is It Important for God to Order Our Steps?

We are living in times of confusion and chaos. The enemy is lurking at every corner, waiting for an opportune moment to steer us off track. If we try to navigate life with our own wisdom, leaning on our own understanding, we’re bound to get lost in the twists and turns of life’s challenges. That’s why it’s essential for God to order our steps. He sees what we cannot see. He knows the traps the enemy has set and the divine appointments waiting just around the bend.

When God orders our steps, we are walking in His divine will, on His path of protection, provision, and purpose. He leads us beside still waters, even when the world around us is raging. He directs us through dark valleys and brings us into places of breakthrough, growth, and victory. There’s peace in knowing that when we surrender our way to God, we can trust Him to lead us to places we would never be able to find on our own.

How Can We Get God to Order Our Steps?

The good news is that God wants to order your steps. It’s His desire to direct you into His perfect will, but we have to be willing to listen. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Trust is the foundation. We must fully rely on God, even when things don’t make sense.

Here are some keys to ensuring God is the one guiding your steps:

  1. Surrender your plans. It’s easy to hold tight to our own agenda, but if you want God to order your steps, you have to first let go of your own. When you release control, God is free to move.
  2. Seek Him in prayer. You can’t expect God to order your steps if you’re not spending time in His presence. Daily communion with the Father—through prayer, worship, and reading the Word—keeps you aligned with His plans.
  3. Be obedient to His voice. When God speaks, whether through Scripture, a prophetic word, or the still, small voice, you must be quick to obey. Delayed obedience is disobedience, and disobedience blocks God’s ability to order your steps.
  4. Stay in faith. Sometimes God orders our steps in directions we don’t understand or find uncomfortable. But trust that God’s plans are always better than our own. He is always working things out for our good (Romans 8:28).

Walking in Step with God

Beloved, the enemy would love nothing more than to lead you astray, to sow confusion and cause you to stumble. But God is faithful. He is ready to order your steps if you’ll trust Him enough to follow His lead. The path He has for you may not always be easy, but it is always the right one. Stay close to Him. Seek His face daily. Walk in obedience, and you’ll find yourself right where He wants you—moving from glory to glory, victory to victory, as He orders your steps.

In His will, you’ll find peace, protection, and purpose. Let Him lead. He’s already prepared the way.
