The enemy thought he had you. He thought he could intimidate you, weary you, break you, and ultimately stop you. But God—oh, but God—is turning the tables. He’s not just delivering you from the hands of your adversaries; He’s making them watch as He blesses you beyond measure.
Psalm 23:5 declares, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.” This is not just poetic imagery—it’s a prophetic reality. It’s a divine promise. It’s a declaration from the Lord of Hosts that your enemies don’t get the final say.
God’s Table Is a Table of Vindication
Maybe you’ve been slandered. Maybe you’ve been falsely accused, betrayed, or attacked. The enemy used people—sometimes even those closest to you—to try to derail your destiny. But let me tell you something: God sees. He hears. And He vindicates His own.
Joseph was thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, and wrongfully imprisoned. His own brothers conspired against him. But God had a plan all along. When the time came, God set a table before Joseph in the presence of his enemies. His brothers had to come and bow before him, just as the Lord had shown him in his dreams (Genesis 42:6). The very ones who tried to destroy him had to watch as God lifted him up.
I don’t know who has tried to tear you down, but I do know this: God is preparing your elevation. He is preparing your vindication. He is making a way where there seemed to be no way. And when He does it, your enemies will have no choice but to see it.
God’s Table Is a Table of Overflow
David didn’t just say God would set a table—he said his cup would run over. When God moves, He doesn’t do it halfway. He is a God of abundance. He is a God who goes beyond.
The enemy has tried to rob you. He’s tried to hold back your provision, your peace, your joy. But get ready—because when God sets a table, it’s not a small snack; it’s a feast. It’s overflow. It’s more than enough.
Think about Job. He lost everything—his wealth, his children, his health. The enemy stripped him bare. But God restored him. And not only did God restore him, but He gave him double for his trouble (Job 42:10). That’s the nature of our God.
If you’ve been through a season of loss, I declare to you today: restoration is coming. And not just restoration—overflow. The enemy will have to sit back and watch as God blesses you beyond what you thought possible.
God’s Table Is a Table of Anointing
David also said, “You anoint my head with oil.” In biblical times, anointing oil was used to consecrate kings, priests, and prophets. It represented empowerment, favor, and divine commissioning.
When God anoints your head with oil, He is marking you. He is setting you apart. He is declaring to the spirit realm that you belong to Him, that you carry His authority, that you have been chosen for such a time as this.
The enemy has tried to discredit you, but God is confirming you. The enemy has tried to push you down, but God is raising you up. And this anointing—this fresh oil—will empower you to walk in the fullness of your calling.
What Do You Do While God Prepares the Table?
You might be wondering, “If God is preparing a table, why am I still in the battle?” Because sometimes, God allows your enemies to linger just long enough to watch your breakthrough.
While you wait, here’s what you do:
- Stay in faith. Don’t let the enemy’s threats shake you. God is setting the table even now.
- Keep your heart pure. Don’t let bitterness creep in. Joseph didn’t seek revenge—he let God handle it.
- Position yourself in praise. Worship in the waiting. Praise confuses the enemy and accelerates breakthrough.
- Walk in expectation. Your season is shifting. Your cup is about to overflow.
Your Enemies Will See It, but They Can’t Stop It
The most powerful part of Psalm 23:5 is that God doesn’t prepare the table in secret—He does it in the presence of your enemies. That means they will see it. They will know they didn’t succeed in stopping you. They will have to watch as God elevates you, blesses you, anoints you, and restores you.
Beloved, don’t fear the battle. Don’t be discouraged by the warfare. You’re on the verge of a divine feast. You’re about to step into a new realm of victory. Keep pressing. Keep believing. Keep praising.
God is preparing a table for you, and when He sets the table, nothing and no one can stop you from taking your seat.
Get ready. It’s time to feast.
