I heard the Lord say, “Elevate!” There’s a call in this season to rise above, to step into a higher place of authority and anointing, to move into the next realm of His purpose for your life. But here’s the problem—sometimes we can’t elevate because of what we tolerate.
God is calling us higher, but we are stuck in the lowlands of compromise, mediocrity, and sin. He’s calling us to climb, but our feet are shackled by the things we’ve allowed to linger too long. It’s time to take a hard look at what you’ve been tolerating and decide to stop tolerating what God hates.
The Dangers of Tolerating What God Hates
There’s a subtle trap in the word “tolerate.” It seems like such a harmless word. After all, shouldn’t we be tolerant of others, patient with their faults, and gracious in our dealings with the world? While we are called to love others, we are never called to tolerate what God has declared off-limits.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2 NKJV).
Tolerating what God hates opens a door to compromise. And compromise is like a slow leak in a tire—it doesn’t happen all at once, but before you know it, you’re running on empty. Little by little, what was once unacceptable becomes comfortable. The things that used to prick your conscience are now just part of your everyday life. And then you wonder why you can’t elevate into the things God has for you!
What Are You Tolerating?
In the book of Revelation, Jesus rebukes the church at Thyatira for tolerating Jezebel. “Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols” (Revelation 2:20 NKJV). The word “allow” there can be translated as “tolerate.” They were tolerating Jezebel’s destructive influence, and it was hindering their spiritual elevation.
What are you allowing in your life? What is robbing you of the fullness of God’s call? Are you tolerating the lies of the enemy? Have you made peace with sinful habits that the Holy Spirit has nudged you about? Are you allowing toxic relationships to drag you down, tolerating gossip or negativity that poisons your atmosphere?
Stop Tolerating and Prepare to Elevate
There’s a season of elevation on the horizon, but to step into it, we must strip off what hinders. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (Hebrews 12:1 NIV).
It’s time to clean house. It’s time to uproot those things that have been tolerated for too long. The enemy loves to keep us in a place of stagnation by enticing us to compromise, but God is calling us to a place of purity, power, and purpose.
Let’s go deeper here. This isn’t about perfectionism—it’s about preparation. God wants to elevate you, but He won’t take you higher if you’re still holding onto what He’s trying to purge from your life. There’s a refining that comes before elevation, and that refining often starts with confronting what we’ve been tolerating.
Elevation Requires Consecration
If you’re serious about elevating in this season, then consecration is the key. Consecration means setting yourself apart for God’s use, removing what defiles, and aligning yourself with His heart. When we stop tolerating what God hates, we position ourselves to hear His voice more clearly, to receive His strategies, and to walk in the fullness of His blessing.
“Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully” (Psalm 24:3-4 NKJV).
Clean hands and a pure heart—that’s what it takes to ascend into the presence of God and experience the elevation He has promised.
The Call to Elevate
The Lord is speaking to His church right now: “Elevate!” But elevation isn’t automatic. There is a process, and part of that process is deciding to stop tolerating what is keeping you bound. The good news is that God has given us the grace to confront these things. The Holy Spirit will empower you to break free from whatever has held you down.
But you must make the choice. You must decide to stop tolerating the enemy’s lies, to stop entertaining thoughts and behaviors that grieve the Holy Spirit, and to stop allowing what God has forbidden.
This is your moment to elevate! It’s time to break free from complacency and compromise. It’s time to step into the next level of your calling. Stop tolerating what God hates and prepare to elevate into everything He has for you!
The Lord is calling you higher—will you answer?
