The Patriots will be making their ninth Super Bowl appearance with quarterback Tom Brady on February 3. But in an interview with Sports Spectrum’s Jason Romano, being asked about his faith, star rookie running back Sony Michel said, “none of this matters.”
Jason said, “Sony, I want to ask about your faith in Christ…Tell me about your faith and why that is important to you.”
Responding, Sony said, “Without Jesus Christ, without our Lord and Savior, there is none of this. We get all this glory, but the glory is really not for us; it’s for Him. We do this for Him. And that’s kind of my purpose. So really none of this really matters to me.”
Before interviewing Sony, Jason interviewed character coach and pastor Jack Easterby. Easterby had just finished encouraging the football players to be “glory reflectors.”
Tre Goins-Phillips of Faithwire reported, “Asked by Romano what [glory reflectors] means and why it’s important, Sony said, ‘Once I step out of the house, I want people to be able to see that God is working in my life. It’s not me working, it’s not me doing the things that I do. It’s Him.’”
Sony said, “[God] gave me this platform so I would be able to make an impact and that’s what it’s all about. Just reflecting him.”
You Can Become a Glory Reflector
If you’re encouraged by this testimony but don’t have a relationship with Jesus, please know that He loves you. Then follow these next few steps you can make for you to be a “glory reflector.”
God loves you and wants to transform your life. Ephesians 2:4-6 says, “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved-and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”
Our sin separates us from God but He still loves you. Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” That means that each one of us have done wrong and broken God’s laws and rules. And there is a penalty for breaking God’s laws. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” But there is great news!
Jesus’ life, death and Resurrection has saved you from punishment if you are willing to accept His love, believing in Him! John 3:16-17 says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.” Out of love for us Jesus took the punishment for our sinful wrongdoing upon Himself on the Cross. He has rescued us and made a place for us with Him in Heaven! So now, what can you do?
Walk away from your sin, asking Jesus to forgive you! Acts 2:38 gives us a step in committing our life to Jesus, saying, “Repent.” This simply means walking away from your sin, bad habits and wrongdoing, changing your mind and agreeing with God’s Word you will follow Him. Some things start changing immediately. But don’t be discouraged if you slip. You will also change as you grow daily in knowing Him as Lord and King of your life.
