Kim Kardashian has posted and retweeted about some lively worship services recently and her husband Kanye West isn’t shy about believing in Jesus. It’s surprising then, to see that Kim is as much a fan of the TV series Long Island Medium, which features celebrity clairvoyant, Theresa Caputo.
Consulting mediums or those who channel the dead is something which the Bible expressly forbids and it doesn’t matter how famous or cool you are, that warning is in place for a reason.
Our God expects us to worship Him alone and He warns us explicitly to stay away from other gods as well as all who claim to speak to the dead. A major reason for this is that consulting mediums opens you and your family up to occultic interference and can bring curses into your lives.
So when Theresa Caputo says, “thank you for trusting me with the souls of your loved ones,” that is a huge cause of concern. There is nothing honorable about channeling the dead. So, can the Long Island Medium be trusted with our loved ones? The Bible clearly shows us that the opposite is true.
“Why are some millennials turning to the supernatural?” the BBC asks in an article entitled Meet the young people who believe they’re communicating with the dead.” It seems more and more people are looking for answers in the wrong places. Fortune tellers, clairvoyants, mediums, tarot card readers may be rising in popularity but they are counterfeit to the legitimate prophetic gifts God gives to His people through words of wisdom and knowledge.
It’s one thing to believe in God and quite another to follow Him and keep His commandments. In Hosea 4:6 the Bible says “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” If we truly believe in Jesus then we need to follow His Word and be obedient to it – despite what may seem to be the trendy thing to do.
If you want to receive spiritual direction and insight go to the true source – God. Don’t be fooled by what the enemy has to offer, putting yourself and your family at risk.
Don’t be defiled by these detestable practices
The scriptures are clear:
‘“Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.” (Leviticus 19:31)
“I can understand God doesn’t want us to have anything to do with witchcraft and the occult,” you may say, “but there is nothing wrong with talking to a medium…” Wrong, they are all unacceptable in God’s sight as this next verse shows:
“Let no one be found among you… who practises divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you.” (Deuteronomy 18:10-12)
We are all involved in spiritual warfare whether we know it or not. It’s a fight against good and evil. Let’s not be found on the wrong side of the battle. My hope is that Kanye and Kim would discover the truth, and stay away from the occult. May God reverse any curse that may have come upon them and their beautiful family.
