Courts of Heaven: Overturning Curses Spoken Over Me

Check out my course, Getting Justice in the Courts of Heaven.

Here’s something the enemy doesn’t want you to understand: the power of words and your authority to overturn every curse that’s been spoken over your life.

Maybe you’re sitting there right now feeling the weight of words that were spoken over you—by a parent, by an ex-spouse, by someone in authority, or even by a so-called prophet who missed God. Those words keep replaying in your mind like a broken record: “You’ll never amount to anything.” “You’re cursed just like your father.” “You’ll always be sick.” “You’ll die young.”

Listen to me carefully: You don’t have to agree with what hell has decreed over your life.

The Biblical Reality of Curses

Let’s establish the foundation here because I’m not interested in hype or sensationalism. Scripture is clear that words carry power. Proverbs 18:21 tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Numbers 23:23 declares, “For there is no sorcery against Jacob, nor any divination against Israel.” This wasn’t just an Old Testament principle. It was a prophetic declaration of the protection available to God’s people. But here’s what you need to understand: that protection becomes active when you stand in your authority and enforce what Christ has already accomplished.

Balaam couldn’t curse what God had blessed (Numbers 23:8). But notice this: God still dealt with the issue. He didn’t ignore it. He didn’t tell Israel, “Just pretend those words don’t exist.” He confronted the curse head-on. The curse was overturned.

The Legal Ground of Words

When someone speaks a curse over you—whether through witchcraft, through careless words, or through the misuse of prophetic authority—the enemy attempts to establish a legal decree in the spirit realm. This is why Proverbs 26:2 says, “Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, so a curse without cause shall not alight.”

But here’s the key phrase: “without cause.”

A curse needs landing rights. It needs agreement. It needs legal ground. This is where many believers miss it. They think curses are automatic, that they’re powerless victims of other people’s words. Or they think a curse could never possibly touch them. Neither is accurate.

The Courts of Heaven is a biblical concept.  Revelation 12:10 speaks of “the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night.” Where was he accusing them? In the courtroom of Heaven. Job 1 shows us Satan presenting his case before the throne of God. These are judicial proceedings in the spirit realm.

Your Legal Standing in Christ

Here’s where your victory begins: Jesus Christ is your Advocate (1 John 2:1). You have legal representation in the highest court that exists. But you need to show up to your own trial.

Too many believers are getting beaten down by curses because they never take their case to the Judge. They never present the evidence of the Blood of Jesus. They never file a counter-claim based on Calvary’s finished work.

When someone speaks death over you, you have the right to appeal to the Court of Heaven and present your case.

Taking Action in the Courts

Let me give you a practical framework for approaching the Courts of Heaven:

First, identify the curse. What specific words were spoken? What patterns have you seen manifest? Be specific. Vague prayers get vague results.

Second, repent for any agreement. This is crucial. Every time you repeated that curse, every time you said “I’m just like my alcoholic father” or “I’ll never be successful”—you gave that curse power through agreement. Break that agreement now. Renounce it out loud.

Third, present your case based on the Blood. Don’t come before God whining and begging. Come as a joint-heir with Christ. Hebrews 12:24 says you’ve come “to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.” The Blood speaks on your behalf, and it speaks better things than any curse ever could.

Fourth, issue a decree. You’re not just defending. You’re going on offense. Based on the authority of God’s Word and the evidence of Jesus’ Blood, decree the reversal: “I decree that every curse spoken over me is now overturned. I decree blessing where there was cursing. I decree life where death was pronounced. I decree breakthrough where blockage was established.”

Finally, close the case. Thank God for the verdict. Receive it. Walk in it. Don’t keep relitigating the same issue.

The Warfare Doesn’t Stop There

Now let me warn you: overturning a curse in Heaven’s court doesn’t mean the enemy will immediately roll over and give up. There’s a difference between the judicial verdict and the enforcement of that verdict. Daniel received an answer the moment he prayed, but he had to contend for 21 days before the manifestation broke through (Daniel 10:12-13).

You may need to enforce that heavenly verdict through persistent prayer, declarations, and spiritual warfare. The curse has been legally overturned, but now you’re evicting the squatter who’s been operating under an expired lease.

Walking in Your Victory

Here’s what I need you to understand: You are not a victim of other people’s words unless you choose to be. Yes, their words carried a spiritual payload. Yes, there was demonic intention behind them. But greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).

Stop meditating on the curse. Stop giving it airtime. Start filling your mouth with the Word of God and speaking life over yourself. Start declaring what God says about you instead of what people said about you.

The Courts of Heaven are open. Your Advocate is waiting. The evidence of the Blood has already been presented. All that’s needed is for you to step into your authority as a blood-bought believer and enforce the victory that’s already yours.

It’s time to overturn every curse and walk in the blessing that has your name on it.
