Most believers do not recognize a retaliatory attack until they are already in the middle of it. By then, they are scrambling. Reacting. Trying to figure out what went wrong while the enemy is already three moves ahead.
It does not have to be that way.
God is not in the business of leaving you blindsided. He is a God who reveals. The Hebrew word for prophet is nabi. It means one who is called to speak. But the prophetic gift is not just about speaking. It is about seeing. And if you are going to survive the warfare that follows breakthrough, you need to learn to see what is coming before it arrives.
Retaliation Has a Pattern
The enemy is not as creative as you think. He operates in patterns. He has a playbook. And once you learn to recognize his sequences, you stop being caught off guard.
Here is one of the most consistent patterns in Scripture. Every time God elevates, the enemy escalates. Every time heaven confirms, hell contests. Jesus was baptized and immediately tempted. David was anointed and immediately hunted. Paul received a revelation of the third heaven and immediately received a thorn in the flesh (2 Corinthians 12:7).
The trigger is always advancement. If nothing is shifting in your life, the enemy has no reason to retaliate. But the moment you step into a new level of obedience, authority or anointing, something is going to push back.
That push back is not random. It is retaliatory. And you can learn to discern it before it manifests.
What Discernment Demands
Discernment is not passive. It demands a response. When you sense retaliation forming, you do not sit and wait to see if it materializes. You go to prayer. You take authority. You shut the door before the enemy walks through it.
Jesus told Peter that Satan had asked to sift him like wheat (Luke 22:31). Jesus discerned it. He did not wait for Peter to fall apart before addressing it. He interceded in advance.
That is the model. See it early. Pray before it lands. Close the gap between discernment and action.
The enemy is planning something. But you do not have to wait for impact to respond. Start discerning. Start now.
