Every year around this time, I feel the shift in the spirit. You can almost sense the acceleration in the unseen realm. Heaven is moving with purpose, but the enemy is also scrambling. He knows seasons matter. He knows momentum matters. He knows if he cannot take you out, he will try to wear you down before the calendar turns.
Year-end is a vulnerable moment. People are tired. Hope deferred sits heavy. Delays feel personal. Distractions multiply. And while believers are looking ahead to the next year’s promises, the enemy is looking for legal openings to sabotage what God is birthing in you.
This is why discernment is not optional right now. You must understand the enemy’s strategy before it manifests. You must see before he strikes. You must get ahead of what he is trying to set in motion.
A Time When the Enemy Tries to Close the Gap
The enemy studies patterns. He watches your progress. He looks for unguarded places, unhealed wounds, unattended doors. At the close of a year, he often tries to tighten the pressure, hoping you will surrender ground you already gained.
Paul warned us not to be ignorant of Satan’s devices. Year-end is one of the times his devices feel louder. The enemy knows many are evaluating their lives, their relationships, and their ministries. He wants to twist those evaluations into discouragement, accusation, and despair. He wants you to misinterpret what God is doing.
If he can cloud your perspective, he can redirect your steps. If he can stir confusion, he can interrupt your assignment. If he can trigger old cycles, he can keep you from stepping into the new.
Three Common Year-End Strategies of the Enemy
1. Fatigue That Feels Like Failure
The enemy loves to weaponize exhaustion. You’ve prayed. You’ve stood. You’ve warred. You’ve persevered. And now you’re simply tired. But fatigue is not failure. It’s not defeat. It’s not evidence that God’s word is void.
Fatigue is simply a sign that you need refreshing. Yet the enemy whispers, “See, nothing changed. You misheard God. You’re no further along.” If you don’t discern this voice, you’ll confuse simple weariness with spiritual collapse.
2. Sudden Disruptions Designed to Scatter Your Focus
Many times the enemy waits until the end of the year to release sudden chaos. Unexpected bills. Family conflict. Strange attacks that seem to come out of nowhere. These are distractions meant to scatter your focus so you cannot hear what God is saying about the year ahead.
The enemy wants to fill your emotional space with noise so there is no room for revelation.
3. Resurrecting Old Battles to Keep You in Old Cycles
Some of the warfare you see at the end of a year is not new. It’s old. The enemy wants to drag you into old patterns of fear, anger, offense, or compromise because he knows if he can keep you circling the same mountain, he can keep you out of the next assignment.
He wants to reintroduce the very thing God is trying to close.
God Is Speaking in the Midst of the Warfare
Do not read this strategy and react with fear. Read it and respond with discernment. The enemy’s movements are a counterfeit echo of what God is doing.
God is setting things in order. God is exposing hidden snares. God is cutting away distractions. God is bringing closure to cycles that have lingered too long. God is strengthening your discernment so you can carry the weight of the next season.
You are not going into the new year blind. Heaven is speaking. Heaven is guiding. Heaven is giving you insight so you can step into January with clarity, courage, and conviction.
How to Discern the Enemy’s Strategy Before It Manifests
Pay attention to patterns.
When the same issue keeps resurfacing, it’s not random. It’s either a cycle God wants to break or a scheme the enemy wants to revive.
Watch your internal atmosphere.
Confusion, dread, discouragement, or sudden heaviness are often indicators that warfare is swirling around you. Don’t internalize it. Intercede through it.
Guard your words.
Year-end frustration often tempts believers to prophesy the enemy’s plan over their own lives. Refuse to speak defeat. Refuse to speak fear. Your words are doors.
Stay submitted to the Holy Spirit’s direction.
Ask Him daily, “What are You highlighting? What do I need to confront, close, or consecrate before the new year?” The Spirit will not leave you guessing.
This Is a Season to Tighten Your Shield
The enemy wants to end your year in confusion. God wants to end your year in clarity. The enemy wants you weary and distracted. God wants you sharp and expectant. The enemy wants to keep you circling old ground. God wants to thrust you into new purpose.
Lift your shield. Stay alert. Stay discerning. This is not the time to drift. The enemy’s strategy is only powerful when it goes undetected.
But when you discern it…
You disrupt it.
You dismantle it.
You deny it access to your life.
As you approach the close of this year, ask the Holy Spirit for heightened discernment and supernatural insight. You will not stumble into 2026 confused. You will step into it prepared, positioned, and prophetically aligned.
The enemy has a year-end strategy.
But so does God.
And God’s strategy always wins.
