When Delay is a Test of Faith

When Delay is a Test of Faith

Not all delay is demonic. Sometimes, delay is divine.

There are moments when what feels like delay is actually a test, a holy pause where God watches to see how we will respond. Will we panic or press in? Will we give up or grow up? Will we retreat or rise?

When God allows a delay, He’s not punishing you. He’s preparing you.“Until the time that his word came: the word of the Lord tried him.” —Psalm 105:19

Joseph had a word from God in a dream. But before he wore the robe of authority, he wore the shackles of delay. From the pit to the prison, he passed through the pressure. But that delay tested him. And when the time came, he was ready to rule.

Sometimes, God delays a thing because He’s more interested in building your faith muscle than your platform.

Delay as a Refiner

The delay doesn’t always mean denial. It may mean development.

God may be:

  • Strengthening your spiritual stamina
  • Sharpening your discernment
  • Stripping away dependence on man
  • Stretching your capacity for leadership
  • Shaping your response to adversity

You’ve been praying, fasting, sowing, and standing. The heavens may feel silent. But heaven is watching.

Remember, Paul said these Holy Spirit-inspired words: “The just shall live by faith.” —Romans 1:17

Faith that can’t be tested is faith that can’t be trusted.

The Enemy’s Strategy in a Divine Delay

Even when the delay is allowed by God, the enemy will try to hijack it.

He’ll whisper:

  • “God forgot you.”
  • “You missed your moment.”
  • “You’ll never recover.”
  • “You’re being punished.”

Those are lies meant to abort your faith. But when you discern the difference between demonic delay and divine testing, you can lean into the process and pass the test.

How to Pass the Faith Test

If you're in a divine delay, here's how to respond:

1. Praise in the Waiting Room

Praise isn’t just for after the breakthrough—it’s a weapon during the delay. It reminds your soul that God is still good and still faithful.

2. Keep Moving Forward

Don’t let the delay paralyze you. Do what you can do while you wait for what only God can do.

3. Guard Your Mouth

Don’t curse your own harvest with words of doubt. Speak faith even when you feel frustrated.

4. Refuse to Compare

Delay is not denial. God’s timing for you is tailor-made. Don’t let someone else’s breakthrough make you question your own process.

5. Stay in Agreement with God

Keep saying what He said, even when you don’t see it yet.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for every delay that You allowed to test and refine my faith. I trust that You are good, even in the silence. I ask You for strength to persevere, wisdom to discern the delay, and faith to remain steadfast. I break every demonic lie that says I’m forgotten. I declare: I will not abort the process. I will not give up. I will pass the test. And I will walk into the promise You’ve prepared for me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Don’t stop now. If you’re in a test of delay, this is the moment to press deeper—not back down. I encourage you to go further with my course Conquering Hindering Spirits at schoolofthespirit.tv/courses/hinderingspirits. Delay is part of a broader strategy—let me show you how to break it all.
