Check this out. Google has launched a new service called “In Quotes” that lets you find quotes from stories linked to from Google News. Just in time for the election…the home page features a comparison between the quotes on Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama.

That means no spin, at least not from a journalist writing a story. You can see in digital black and white what the candidate said. Of course, Google makes no guarantees that the candidates aren’t spinning. That said, you can click a “spin” button and see two different quotes on the same topic by the candidates.

“These quotations are a valuable resource for understanding where people in the news stand on various issues. Much of the published reporting about people is based on the interpretation of a journalist,” Google explained. “Direct quotes, on the other hand, are concrete units of information that describe how newsmakers represent themselves. Google News compiles these quotations from online news stories and sorts them into browsable groups based on who is being quoted.”

You can quickly see what the presidential candidates have to say about hot button issues, such as the recession, oil prices, abortion, the environment, immigration, human rights, marriage, health care, enegy, and housing.
