The spirit of Jezebel is releasing subtle attacks on prophetic voices—by targeting the throat. The throat is home to your vocal cords, so when witchcraft—the power of the enemy—is targeted at your throat it becomes difficult to release your voice. Instead of a strong, clear, bold voice, throat attacks leave the voice weak, scratchy and with painful spasms.

This is not a new strategy. The wicked Queen Jezebel in the Old Testament was known for slaughtering the prophets at the edge of the sword, slicing through the vocal cords and leaving them voiceless in the last moments of their life so they were unable to prophesy her demise.

Of course, it wasn’t Jezebel wielding the sword, but Jezebel orchestrated the murder of the prophets just like she orchestrated the murder of Naboth over a vineyard Ahab coveted. Much the same, the spirit of Jezebel itself is using others to wield the sword, and witchcraft is the primary weapon in Jezebel’s 21st century arsenal.

Discerning Jezebel and Her Witchcrafts

Remember, when Jehu came riding Jezebel’s son asked the newly-minted king if there was peace? 2 Kings 9:2 reads, “Now it happened, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, ‘Is it peace, Jehu?’ So he answered, ‘What peace, as long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft are so many?’”

The word for witchcraft in 2 Kings 9:22 comes from the Hebrew “kesheph.” It means sorcery and witchcraft. Merriam-Webster defines witchcraft as “the use of sorcery or magic, communication with a familiar.” Sorcery is defined as “the use of magical powers that are obtained through evil spirits.” The Queen Jezebel in the Old Testament was influenced by the spirit we call Jezebel today. She was practicing witchcraft—sorcery—against her enemies.

Jezebel’s witchcraft can bring infirmities—or lying vanities (symptoms of sickness that aren’t real). Many times when I do a call an altar call for healing the Holy Spirit shows me to break the powers of witchcraft of people's minds before praying over the infirmity that's attacking their bodies. Witchcraft and infirmities are often running mates.

The Holy Spirit showed me that many times witchcraft against your mind can cause you to focus so much on the symptoms attacking your body that you can't extend your faith to receive God's healing power. In other words, if you aren't careful, when witchcraft attacks your mind you will wind up speaking and thinking about the infirmity rather than speaking and thinking about your healing, allowing the enemy to maintain the stronghold.

Ramping Up Throat Attacks

As I said, The spirit of Jezebel is releasing subtle attacks on prophetic voices—by targeting the throat. In the Bible days, warriors put their foot on the neck of the enemy, crushing their throat and silencing their voice. Another strategy of the enemy is to put a yoke of bondage around your neck to keep you silent.

When the enemy was attacking David, he uttered these words: “My throat is dry like a broken vessel; my tongue is fixed to the roof of my mouth, and the dust of death is on my lips” (Psalm 22:15).

It’s time to flip the script. You break these Jezebelic attacks against the throat by praising God through the pain until you reach a crescendo in the spirit where boldness arises for you to take authority over the attacks. Psalm 149:6 puts it this way, “The exaltation of God is in their throat, and a two-edged sword in their hand.”

God told Judah his hand will be at the throat of his enemies (see Genesis 49:8). You put your hand to Jezebel’s throat by pressing through the dryness, the scratchiness and the painful spams with praise. But don’t stop there. But your foot on the neck of your enemy and declare victory with a shout of thanksgiving.
