SHOW NOTES:

Prince Harry has family wounds.

You can say he’s being overly sensitive if you choose, but what may not wound one person may devastate another.

Think about it for a minute. Prince Harry was born into the Royal Family. His mother died suddenly in a car crash, presumably because paparazzi were chasing the car she was in. He had to put on a good face for the public at the memorial service despite a broken heart.

As the prince got older, he started rebelling against authority. He’s played the role of the proverbial bad boy.

Remember when he drank alcohol out of a prosthetic leg? Or when he got naked in Vegas, or the time he allegedly partied until 3 am the night before Prince William’s wedding? What about all the times he wandered around shirtless or leapt off a balcony before the royal wedding? Or what about the time he let loose in Croatia or snuck into a club via a fire escape or when he hooked up with one of the Real Housewives, or the time he tried to fight a photographer, or when he got drunk and fell into a pool?

The list goes on and on.

Louis Staples of CNN said, “Spare is a sad read about a man who is clearly hurt and damaged. A man who, by accident of birth and through tragedy, has never had complete control over his own life. The memoir’s central narrative is that, despite being born into immense privilege, Prince Harry is a victim too. From a young age, he remembers knowing that he existed just in case anything happened to William.”

But I don’t think he’s making up his feelings. I believe he was and in some ways still is wounded.

Now, Kate Middleton is outraged and hurt by Prince Harry’s bool allegations. But Harry maintains nothing he has done was with the intention of harming or hurting his family. It’s been said hurting people hurt people.

Some would say his family is no more dysfunctional than any other family. But that’s the point.

We all have families. That means we all suffer family wounds at one time or another. Prince Harry is pontificating about the many wounds he suffered at the hands of the Royal Family. You can judge him for going too far. You can say he’s doing it for the money. But he’s clearly hurt.
